A Tourist’s Guide to Cannabis-Friendly Vegas Stays

When it comes to dynamic nightlife, exciting tourism, and bold experiences, Las Vegas, Nevada beats other popular tourist destinations by a landslide. Known for its sparkling Strip of casinos, clubs, and luxury hotel accommodations, Vegas effectively attracts a largely adult tourist crowd who are on the hunt for memories they will never forget.

This adult tourist crowd brings with them an array of adult interests, prompting tourist attractions and hotels in the Vegas area to rise to the challenge of introducing amenities that appeal to the crowd. With Nevada’s legalization of recreational marijuana in 2017 and a recent legal possession limit increase in 2024, recreational weed use has become a compelling adult interest for tourism-centric businesses to accommodate. By introducing new dispensaries, food chains, lounges, and even a hotel with the cannabis crowd in mind, Las Vegas has proved itself to be a prime destination for cannabis-friendly tourism.

The Lexi: Vegas’s Only 420-Friendly Hotel

While popular dispensaries and 420-friendly lounges are beginning to emerge as parts of Vegas’s tourism scene, weed-inclusive hotels and accommodations can be much more difficult to find. The great news for recreational marijuana users is that one standalone hotel, The Lexi, is pioneering 420-friendly stays in Las Vegas by offering an entire area where marijuana use is permitted for its visitors.

The Lexi: An Adults-Only Hotel

The Lexi is a 64-room, cannabis-inclusive boutique hotel, sitting just west of the infamous Las Vegas Strip. Initially opened as the Las Vegas Inn and Casino in 1978, the building that now holds The Lexi’s modern rooms also holds a wealth of history and hospitality experience. When The Lexi was born in 2023 after the hotel (previously The Artisan) underwent major renovation, cannabis inclusivity was positioned as a major benefit of booking The Lexi’s accommodations. Only adults 21 and older are permitted to stay at The Lexi, aligning the target audience with the many adults-only amenities at the hotel.

Where is weed allowed at The Lexi?

Currently, the entire fourth floor of The Lexi is full of cannabis-friendly rooms known as “weed rooms,” where guests are permitted to use recreational marijuana. The fourth floor underwent unique renovations to optimize it for 420-friendly stays.

Benefits of a Cannabis-Friendly Hotel

Weed-Friendly Design

Important measures have to be taken to accommodate recreational marijuana usage in a way that makes sense, and The Lexi has ensured that their smoke-friendly rooms are made with those measures in mind. A list of special considerations to accommodate legal consumption includes:

  1. Fourth Floor Ventilation: A special RestorAir commercial-grade filtration system on the fourth floor (the 420-friendly floor) helps the air smell cleaner and prevents the smell of marijuana from infiltrating the rooms on the non-420 floors.
  2. Secondary Ventilation: Rooms that aren’t located on the fourth floor are fitted with smaller air filtration systems to ensure a smell-free stay for non-420 guests.
  3. Decor Adjustments: The hotel has taken measures to remove or replace common room items that would trap the smell of marijuana, causing it to linger in a room. When The Artisan went under renovation to become The Lexi, drapes were replaced with shutters, carpet swapped for laminate flooring, and canvas paintings tossed in favor of painted wall murals.

Find a 420 Community

Because The Lexi is designed to attract visitors who value a 420-friendly style of travel and tourism, you’re more likely to come across fellow travelers with similar interests to yours when you book a stay. The Lexi is proud to bring like minded people together through its niche environment and unique offerings!

Benefits of an Adults-Only Hotel

Although The Lexi is a non-gaming hotel (meaning it doesn’t house a casino), it is still an adults-only hotel, offering an environment that is very much aligned with their 21+ tourist audience. On the subject of vacation relaxation, many adults (whether parents or not) would agree that a kid-free trip is toward the top of their priority list, and The Lexi makes sure to create a stay that satisfies that need.

Kid-Free Relaxation

The tourist areas of Las Vegas generally experience a much smaller number of scampering young kids than other popular vacation cities, but it’s still possible to come across children at several of the more popular accommodation spots. Not at The Lexi, though, as only adults are allowed to stay, meaning your vacation’s potential for peace and relaxation just increased tenfold.

More Unique Experiences

With a guaranteed demographic of adult guests, The Lexi has the freedom to offer its unique amenities freely and openly, setting it apart from many other attractions and accommodations in Las Vegas that cater to a less-specific group of potential visitors.

Cannabis in Las Vegas: Legal Considerations

Is Weed Legal in Las Vegas?

Both medical and recreational cannabis use is considered legal in Sin City. Recreational use first became legal for users over 21 in January of 2017, when the Initiative to Regulate and Tax Marijuana (Question 2) was implemented after a winning vote in late 2016. Later on, in mid-2021, cannabis consumption lounges were also legalized, with venues like the Nuwu Cannabis Market and the Smoke and Mirrors lounge subsequently popping up and popularizing in the Vegas area.

Marijuana Laws in Vegas

So, what’s actually allowed in Vegas? While adults older than 21 can legally consume cannabis products recreationally, and even purchase those products at state-licensed dispensaries, regulations and restrictions exist surrounding where usage can happen and how much can be used. The current laws, following a possession limit increase at the beginning of 2024, allow adults to possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis or 0.25 ounces of concentrated cannabis. Consumption is permitted on private property where the owner allows, but prohibited in public places and in moving vehicles. Lastly, cannabis products must be purchased from a state-licensed dispensary and not from any other sources. Check out this breakdown of Nevada cannabis laws by the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board for a more comprehensive explanation.

The Lexi: Innovating Cannabis Tourism

Until The Lexi came along, buying cannabis products in Vegas seemed only to benefit the locals, leaving tourists with a means to purchase but nowhere to actually use their product. Now, the out-of-town crowd finally has a modern, adults-only sanctuary at which they can enjoy their cannabis and other exciting attractions of the Vegas variety. If cannabis tourism is your style, it’s definitely worth stopping in – we’d love to see you.
